Second Man Since The War!

I've left!

I have tried twice now to retire from the game as I am now old and decrepit and held together with sticky tape! Having left Worthing at around Christmas 2007 (I finally scored a goal for them in my 152nd appearance against Croydon Athletic - there had been plenty of own goals however!) I joined Horsham YMCA again, who were plying their trade in the same division as Worthing. YM weren't able to avoid relegation (this seems to be a theme to my football career!) and I did retire until the end of October 2008 when my old manager from YM took over at Worthing United ("The Mavericks") and asked me to play. So feel free to come and laugh at an unfit centre-half at Lyon Farm!!!

Relegated!

Worthing FC were relegated this season (2006-7) to the Ryman One South. We weren't very good to be honest, and the league doesn't lie, as the cliché goes. I did win the "Sports Writers Player of the Season Award" though. Small consolation!

The pictures below show that I make a lot of effort, but don't have an abundance of talent!

Hoping for a better season with Worthing CC in 2007 as a team. A mixed start, but the potential is there to be up there at the end of the season - fingers are crossed.

Taken where you can usually find me at cricket - in the pavilion!

What Are You On About?

I play football and cricket for Worthing. I am only the second man since the war to play in the first team for both Worthing CC and Worthing FC. Although you'd better read below:

Everything Is Wrong!

Apparently Tim wasn't the first, so ignore the bit below - the liar!

However, I am now the Only Man Since The War!!!

I have captained Worthing CC and Worthing FC - beat that and stay fashionable!

So Who Was Supposedly The First?

The first man to do this was Tim Dunn – a Worthing CC legend and a goalkeeper who was plucked from park football to help Worthing FC out of a goalkeeping crisis in the 80s.

A “stylish” left-handed opener, who scored a league century against East Grinstead to much rejoicing from his team-mates, Tim also captained the club for a number of years, and would claim to be Worthing CC’s most successful captain, with the club winning the Sussex League Cup under his guidance. Those who know Tim also know all about the final, pretty much every ball, fielding position and bowling change!

Footballing Bits

I’m a Brighton and Hove Albion fan, despite being in the Manchester United catchment area that are the Home Counties – support your local club I say! I have played against some of my heroes in various cups and friendlies, which has always been a privilege. If I’m going to be honest I’m not very good at football, but am quite good at running around!

Previous clubs include Southwick FC, Shoreham FC, Burgess Hill Town FC and Horsham YMCA FC (or The Village People Fan Club, Horsham branch according to some!). What a mercenary eh?

Cricketing Bits

I am a Sussex boy, so therefore a Sussex fan. How brilliant was 2003? Very!

I used to be a really good player, but drink and women got the better of me and I’m now just an average club player. A left-handed, aggressive middle order batsman, with a highest league score of 105* against Preston Nomads and a medium (slow) seamer with career best figures of 9 for 57 against Brighton an Hove CC in the league – thanks Anthony for taking the tenth!

Previous club was Shoreham CC, which was a superb club but now, sadly defunct.
