A Quick
Introduction
As I mentioned before, this is where I give you the name of a band and you have to send me your “Top 3” from that band. You are always welcome to send me your favourite Depeche Mode tracks, by the way. I purchased "The Complete Depeche Mode" on iTunes - worth every penny (all 14000 of them!). They had a new album out in the New Year (2009) called "Sounds of the Universe" which is pretty good, especially "Wrong" (watch the video on You Tube), but the second single was an odd choice called "Peace".
I think we're going to have to try a bit harder this time:
New Challenge (13.7.09) - Super Furry Animals
A fantastic band from Wales who's output is always of an exceptionally high standard. It's also worth looking out for Gruff Rhys' (the lead singer) side projects, as himself and with Neon Neon. Good gravy!
Anyway, My Top 3 Super Furry Animals songs are:
1. Golden Retriever
2. Something 4 The Weekend
Play It Cool
A really tough choice to pick just three I hasten to add. If you're not sure who they are, get their "Best Of" called "Songbook".
Johnny Hates Jazz
My new "Top 3" challenge will be based around the back catalogue of Johnny Hates Jazz (and I will include Clark Datchler's solo stuff as well). There isn't a huge amount to check through here, but they did have at least 4 hit singles! One of them will have to be disappointed.
My Top 3 Johnny Hates Jazz tunes are:
1. Shattered Dreams
2. Heart Of Gold
3. I Don't Want To Be A Hero
Please email me your "Top 3" Johnny Hates Jazz tunes at: andy@lutters.co.uk
The Police
This month's band for a "Top 3" selection are newly reformed The Police.
They don't write 'em like that anymore, no siree!
Although at the prices they're charging for the gigs, I may have to wait to see them live!
My "Top 3" are:
1. Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic
2. Message In A Bottle
3. Canary In A Coalmine
Email your "Top 3" Police tunes to me at: andy@lutters.co.uk
Nik didn't float your collective boats!
I invite you all to e-mail your "Top 3" for Nik Kershaw.
Mine are:

This month: Travis
This Scottish quartet have released
four albums plus a “Best Of…”. They are purveyors of fine pop and have been
plying their popster trade since their first hit in 1997, where their tune “U16
Girls” merely dented the Top 40, but their first album, “Good Feeling”, went
Top 10. Their breakthrough album, however was their second, “The Man Who” which
went to the top of the of the album charts and spawned 4 singles, including
“Why Does It Always Rain On Me?”, a festival favourite in 1999. Two other
albums have also found success, “The Invisible Band” and “12 Memories”,
followed by a “Best Of…” collection in 2004. I like them, and I have done this
especially for Mark who was busy pasting them at work the other day!

Like To Get To Know You Well
Thank you for all your “Top 3s”!
Another early 80s phenomenon, who
has since turned to Buddism, but does those dodgy 80s tours now because he
apparently needs the money. I don’t really care, since he produced some
genuinely top notch tunes when I was a nipster. He had 10 Top 40 hits between
1983 (“New Song” reached No.3, no less, and had some bloke wearing a chain with
not much hair dancing next to our Howard) and 1986 (“All I Want”, the little
known tune that “slam-dunked”, perhaps “slam-dinked” in at No.35) and what a
set of hits. Do yourself a favour and get a copy of his “Best Of…” because even
the one that weren’t hits are actually quite good as well.
Anyway, here are My Top 3 Howard
Jones tunes:
1.
New Song
2.
3.
Like To Get To Know You Well
Brilliant – honest! But such a
difficult choice. 4 cups of tea that Top 3 took me, as if I didn’t have
anything better to do.

November 2004: Thompson Twins
Now this early eighties phenomenon
of a popular music group consisted of 3 members. Their style was “electro-pop”,
and they had Top 40 hits between 1983 (their first Top 40 hit was “Love On Your
Side” – No. 9) and 1985 (Their last Top 40 hit was “King For A Day” – No.22).
They had many in-between, but which were your favourite 3?
Mine
are:
1.
Sister Of Mercy
2.
Hold Me Now
3.
You Take Me Up
Feel free to slate my choices, but
you’ve got to better!
